• In 2000 – Commonwealth Secretariat launched an official centre, “The centre of Electronic Governance.
  • IT Act 2000. It provides for legal framework to facilitate E-Commerce, transactions and aims to recognize electronic contracts. It also provides for prevention of computer crimes, electronic filing and documentation.
  • Ministry of IT has set up community Information Centers in 486 blocks in North East India, through the use of VSATs. These CICs can help in combating in escalating issues in health, disaster management, energy, water, education and poverty alleviation.
  • Centre for e-governance – It showcases the applications running country wide with the objective of collecting and disseminating the best practices in the area of e-governance for use of central and state government.
  • Web enabled MIS for NREGA – www.nrega.nic.in.
  • Introduction of e-governance in Customs & Excise department.
  • MCA-21- Ministry of Corporate Affairs – Process engineering to ensure integrity and security of documents through digital signatures and e-filing of statutory forms.
  • NICNET based Agricultural Marketing Information Systems Network (AGMARK – NET) – Provides details on over 300 commodities daily mandi-wise/commodity-wise prices and arrivals.
  • National e-governance Plan (NeGP).

Some examples of E-governance projects in India


a.
E-seva project in Andhra Pradesh provides a variety of services at one spot to citizens. The service included payment of electricity telephone bills water registration & issue of ---- certificate driving license etc.

b. FAST project in Andhra Pradesh (Fully Automated System for Transport) aimed at providing services like issuance of learner’s licenses, driving licenses, registration of vehicle.


c. Maharashtra—SARITA Project:
Provide for computerization of its property registration system thereby serving up the entire registration process & making it easier and reliable for the public.

HARIS Project  in Haryana, same as SARITA

e.
Bhoomi project in Karnataka: Computerization of land record. This has empowered former who can deal with kiosk operators without fear as customers. This facility has helped farmers not only to --- land record speedily without speed money -------- but also save time. This has culminated scope for corruption.

f.
FRIENDS in Kerala (Fast – instants efficient and network for disbursements of services) project aims at facilitating provision of services within a corporation or municipality at a single centre. It is a single window scheme in which consumer is given the option of paying for the common service rendered to him under single roof. Counter handles around 1000 types of payment such as electricity & water, revenue fees, license fees.

Gyandoot in Madhya Pradesh:-Project provides 15 types of service through a network of 35 information centers. Citizen can have the benefits such as information about crop prices copies of land records, Government application, obtaining of income domicile caste certificate registration of grievance.

Countrywide Railway Reservation System has almost eliminated corruption in this

j. Sehat Saathi: It is a rural telemedicine platform for Primary Health Care delivery.

E-sagu: It is a personalized agriculture advisory system.

l. Samvidha: It is a personalized content and presentation for education and literacy for adult and rural children.
